For my entire life – without realizing it until fairly recently – I have used “doses” of cardio as mood boosting medicine. When I was an 8 year old, I freakishly took my dog on walks into the woods when I could have stayed inside idly watching cartoons. (Where were the adults 😉?) In my early teens, I’d bike to my friends house even though I could have gotten a ride. In college, when feeling blue and blah, I’d blast New Order’s songs, Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle, and vigorously jump rope to the uptempo-ed beat in my tiny dorm room. Let’s just say, when I finally had access to aerobics classes, I never looked back!
Increasing your heart rate with movement can make an impact, plain and simple. A splash of cardio can uplift, energize, and inspire. It is not just some “cute little thing” for the fitness bunnies of the world. It’s serious, and It’s for all of us and for our whole lives.
