The Pink Elephant in the Room (Losing Weight)
In this day and age, there seems to be a pink elephant in the fitness space – weight loss. We’re not supposed to bring it up in class. The idea that one might want to lose weight infers that one is not accepting their body. It’s anti body positivity, and society is really sensitive about that right now.
Well, being a healthy weight matters to overall health and well-being. When fit pros preach about body symmetry, it includes weight too. Carrying excess weight – which I view as an imbalance – can tax the joints, prevent big ranges of motion, and overload the respiratory system. These are undisputed facts. More than half the adult population in the United States is overweight, so clearly releasing weight is a goal for many many people.
One size does not fit all with anything, including weight release. Each individual needs to customize their own strategy. However, here are my three top overarching weight release tips for every body:
1. Exercise every single day. It doesn’t have to be a fancy workout, but you need to raise your energetic vibration with physical activity every single day. It’s good for your mood too.
2. Get grounded and calm before eating anything. This helps eradicate reactive binging. (There is too much eating on the run, and it should be frowned upon.)
3. Be patient and give yourself adequate time. The whole “10lbs in 10days” thing ends up backfiring 100percent of the time. Gradual weight release is what you want because it is lasting. (“Little by little, day by day, what is meant for you will find its way,” are words to live by!)
And…I can’t not mention this one thing because it’s the pinkest elephant of them all: our food industry has been corrupted with weird chemicals and strange ingredients, so the less packaged, processed and fast food, the better. Shop for yourself, and prepare as much of your own food as you can. There’s a lot of truth in the phrase, “A six-pack is made in the kitchen.“
From my estimate, diet plays a bigger role than movement and lifestyle, but all cylinders need to be firing today in order to be truly well, regardless of pink elephants. I’m all in. Are you? 🤗
