Diet, Exercise, Sleep…And there’s one more!

When it comes to wellness, there are the big three plus one – diet, exercise and sleep, then there’s time management. Diet is what you eat, exercise is how you move, and sleep is when you restore. Time management is how you structure and schedule your days. Today, I thought it might be insightful to gaze into your typical day with these three+one components in mind.

I’ll use myself as an example:
I’ve got the exercise part down. I am more likely than not to move my body. Only a total catastrophe pulls me away from a daily workout, it is an ingrained part of my lifestyle. Sleep is solid too. I love turning in early and average 7 – 8hours each night. Then there’s my diet…it is not horrible, but it could be improved upon for sure.  I would love to eat a bit cleaner in general, I’d love to be more “on the ball” regarding my food prep and grocery shopping, and probably once or twice per week I eat dinner way later than I’d like too.  Yes – for me, diet is where I can raise the bar.

How do you do the big three? You don’t have to look very deep to see how they all effect each other too. People who regularly exercise tend to sleep better. People who sleep well are less likely to reach for extra stimulants, like sugar and caffeine. People who eat well, have more energy to move, etc.

But the “make or break” is time management. It is. I’ve been at this a long time and I know this to be so true! Intentions are nice, but implementing your intentions takes a plan. The ones with the highest quality diet, exercise and sleep, have mastered time management.

So what’s a girl, who wants to empower her wellness, to do? Plan your week and script your day! Get a notebook. Grab a pen. Sit down and make a detailed plan for yourself. I tend to do this every Sunday night. I look at my calendar, my son’s calendar and my husband’s calendar, and get all my ducks in a row. It’s all on paper for me (although it can be done digitally too). It sort of feels like a jigsaw puzzle, where I try to fit in all I want to fit it, I’m organizing meals and grocery list (I need to improve on this, however), and figuring out what’s what. This is more than a to-do list. It’s a mental rehearsal for the week ahead.

If the busiest people can fit in 7hours of sleep, a daily workout, eat fresh whole foods, you and I can too. Have a vision of how you want to spend your time. Time is precious…your time is precious – let’s use it for empowered wellness. 🤗
