Yurt Love

People have noticed that I am often doing yoga in a yurt. Yes, it’s true. It’s not my own personal yurt (sadly), but I do get to teach in it several times a week.

I’ve been in love with yurts since the very first time I stepped foot in one as a 20something. I remember that particular yurt very vividly – it did not have a heater or a/c unit but it did have a light switch, and it smelled strongly of cedar.

There is something about the simplicity of the structure, its raw materials, and its circular shape. Being in a yurt honestly brings a wave of peace over me. It’s also really special teaching class in a sacred circle, where every one connects with each other and unites energetically.

The 13th century Persian poet, Hafiz, said, “The moon is most happy when it’s full…and the sun always looks like a perfect minted golden coin… there is something about circles The Beloved likes.” Yes, I feel as though that is true. Circles agree with the spirit.

So if you get the chance to practice yoga or meditation, or camp out (or live!), in a yurt, do it. Yurts are good for body and soul.
