#winningroutine
By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, I have celebration fatigue. The gauntlet from Thanksgiving, to December birthdays, to Solstice, to Christmas and then to NYE is a really big one for me. In fact, today is January 1st, New Year’s Day, and I’m admittedly out of whack, socially and emotionally very tired, and I crave routine.
Routine is a very underrated part of wellness success. It’s what leads to consistency and since we become what we repeatedly do, I’d say that’s a big deal.
New Year’s Day is a perfect one to ponder what you need and want when it comes to routine – and make a plan. What is your ideal bedtime? What time of day do you prefer to workout? When does shopping for groceries serve you best? It might take some trial and error, but the aim is to figure out the ideal flow to your day and to your week. All routines need to be: 1. customize to the individual, taking into account lifestyle preferences and quirks, and 2. they need to be sustainable, so nothing too out of reach.
Many of the most help (and small but mighty) things I do for myself are so ingrained into my life now, but they started off as “inserts” into my daily routine, like drinking a large glass of room temperature water first thing upon rising, or leaving my cellphone, on airplane mode, on the kitchen counter at night so as not to disturb my sleep. Having a routine is having organization within your actions. It leverages time. It comforts and soothes the nervous system, and it leads to more intentional living.
The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
2025 is spread before you now. What’s your #winningroutine going to be?
