Why A Wrist Weight Workout?
There’s a hot-off-the-press workout debuting on Let’s Move! right now and it’s a 30minute cardio sculpt, y’all, with or without the added wrist weights! I figured, we’ve got so many video workouts to choose from these days, and maybe, by adding a new prop option, we add a new flavor.
I go way back with wrist weights. I had a (very bulky) cloth set as a teenager, that I jogged around my neighborhood with, velcro-ed around my wrists. (They absorbed so much sweat, smelled so bad, and were not allowed inside the house. I kept them in the garage, amongst my father’s tools.)
Up until now, I’ve shied away from showcasing wrist weights on Let’s Move!because A. I don’t want you to feel like you have to buy anything, and 2. wrist weights are nice, but never a necessity. (Hand weights get the job done too!) However, wrist weights are fairly inexpensive, they are simple, they don’t take up much space, and they can be worn on a walk/hike/jog or on other Let’s Move! workouts. So here we are…May 2025…giving wrist weights a go in Wrist Weight Workout!
So why a wrist weight? Well, the teeny bit of added weight applied to the endsof your lever length (a.k.a., your arms) adds resistance, induces a bit more body awareness, recruits the core a little more, demands more movement control, allows for un-fisted hands, and subtly increases cardio challenge. This is precisely what I mean by accomplish a lot. All of the little enhancements add up, and in turn, maximize your precious time on the mat, yet still do not irritate the body (very important!). In the video, I used Bala brand wrist weights, but any non-cloth style that feels good, will do.
So be sure to give Wrist Weight Workout a try – now streaming on Let’s Move! And remember, can use wrist weights, hand weights, or no weights.
