‘Tis the (Ungrounded) Season

‘Tis the season…..to be busy, to put exercise on the back burner, to feel stressed, to be sleep deprived, and maybe to get rundown or catch a cold. I don’t want this post to be a buzz kill, however. I actually just want it to illuminate the potential pitfalls of right now. This post is a warning – BE SURE TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.

How does one stay well in December? First, stay warm, stay hydrated and keep moving. Second, don’t over book yourself. If you have a really full Friday, plan for some extra “me time’ on Saturday. ( And maybe go to bed early!) Third, and what I surmise is the most important,  stay grounded. When we’re grounded, we are less likely to over indulge in any way, be it with food, drink or some of self-sabotage. When we are grounded, we stay present with our needs, more tuned into what’s going on within.  This prevents self-neglect.

My #1 grounding hack is the open-eyed breathing meditation, which can be done when you’re sitting at your desk. Just follow the inhale up to the crown of your head, and then follow the exhale down to your feet. Do this “scan” up and down your body for one whole minute. It’s really cool how grounding it is. (Like magic!)

The open-eyed breathing meditation can be done as many times per day as you’d like. It can be one minute or five minutes. It’s an incredibly user-friendly self-help tool – no equipment necessary.

‘Tis the season to stay grounded.
