The Ultimate Status Symbol

Is it uncomfortable to sit cross-legged? Do you struggle getting down to and up from the ground? Do you feel tension and/or pain in your hips after walking, hiking, jogging or cycling? If you answered yes to one, two or all three, you are not alone and the following info might enlighten you!

Hips are big, weight bearing joints and the most common reason for discomfort in our hips is a lack of mobility, making stretching the missing link.

There are three non-negotiables when it comes to hip openers:
• First off, it’s key to mindfully ease into your hips. I’ve seen so much damage from force or defiance. Be gentle, start small and gracefully increase the stretch, incrementally.
• Secondly, hips thrive with everyday opening. This means, tend to your hip mobility every single day – even on the days you are not formally working out.
• Third, hips like long, lingering, holds, so be patient, and slow your roll. Whatever you do, do not rush.

I’ve drawn the conclusion that those who suffer from chronic hip tightness are typeA++ personalities. These people have drive. They have ambition. They want it all, and they are often blind to the value to stretch and recovery, as it goes against their ethos.

Hips represent safety, security, and presence. Hips are not about adventure or risk, nor are they in the future. If your whole life is spent “on the hunt” and you don’t periodically carve out time and energy to simply be, hips become painfully stuck. One of the best things TypeA++ folks can do for hip health is sit on the ground and leisurely stretch. Do a 5minute Butterly pose or watch a whole TV show cross-legged on your living room carpet. Ironically, the opposite of go-go-go is the cure!

Possessing good hip mobility is the ultimate status symbol, as it increases one’s comfort zone and prevents injury and pain. Having hip mobility helps one look, feel and function spryly and youthful too.

So for every adult on the planet, Type A++ or not, how about getting ambitious about your hips? The foundation to any and all achievements/accomplishments is not “out there” – it’s right here and now, with health and vitality.
