The Life-Changing Magic Of Cleaning Out Your Refrigerator ????

Ellen on Yoga Mat

Because so many of us are spending lots of time at home these days, it’s more important than ever to keep your home wellness-oriented and make it a feel good sanctuary, where you can nurture yourself and stay well. Here are five habits I’ve adopted that have helped me, and maybe they’ll help you:

1. Keep your home clutter-free and tidy. (Obviously…)
2. Create a designated workout space and personalize it with inspiring things. My workout space is also my meditation corner and has this simple bench that currently houses some crystals and candles, It also has my beloved handheld weights and a forest green (my favorite color!) foam roller and a stack of Mexican blankets I’ve collected over the years. These things make me happy (or “spark joy” like Marie Kondo would say).
3. Keep the lights off as much as possible and live with natural light coming from the windows and doors. There is science to back me up here…natural light is soothing to the psyche.
4. Clean out and scrub down the inside of your refrigerator. It gets so gross so fast!  (I just cleaned out mine and having it so organized and pristine thrills me to no end.) I know this is an undesirable task, but dig deep and make this happen today.
5. Keep your bedding and sleep area fresh and clean with lavender. I grow lavender and I’ve been keeping a few sprigs of it on my bedside table. I also use a few drops of lavender essential oil in the wash. Lavender creates calm, so it’s ideal when it comes to sleep. If you don’t like lavender, you can use pretty much any floral scent – rose and geranium are both great alternatives.

Ultimately, it’s about taking care of yourself in body, mind and spirit, and especially managing stress and diffusing fear. “Out there” might be chaotic, and there is not too much we can do about it. However, your home can be 100 percent peace and love. It can be a place where stress and fear melts away – you very own wellness sanctuary.
