OMG Please Look Up

I took the train into NYC earlier this week and brought along a book and a small knitting project to keep myself occupied on the nearly two hour trip (times two!). I also had my phone (with which I have a love/hate relationship).

I usually love to look out the window while on the Metro North’s “Hudson Line” as there are some very pretty spots sprinkled along the route to Grand Central Station, but it happened to be a densely foggy day and the view was non-existent, so I literally had my head tilted down, with my eyes looking down at my book, my knitting or my phone, for the entire two hour journey there, and the two hour journey back. (Ugh…not cool!)

The sustained alignment of chin towards chest, neck in a forward flexion, and eyes focusing on something very near is commonplace, but very very unnatural and very very bad for one’s alignment, energy flow, and overall vibe, so consider this my public service announcement to myself and to you: LOOK UP“Where the eyes go, the body follows.”

It’s a tough ask, I know. That darn phone lures us in! But still, for the sake of our health and well-being, we need to conjure up two basic things every single day – 1. the awareness of chronic head and neck forward flexion, and 2. the habit of counteraction. We need to notice when our bodies are curling forward for too long, and then we need to, periodically, balance it out by lifting the heart center, pointing the bottom lip up towards the ceiling or sky, and finding some tree tops, a full moon, a ceiling tile or a chandelier to gaze at for a moment or two. Do these two things and all will be forgiven.

Your body thrives on balance. Give it some!

Look up.
Look up.
Look up.

And Let’s Move! 🤗
