“No one is coming to save you.”
“No one is coming to save you” is a saying I always thought was a little harsh. I didn’t really give it much thought or think it applied to my personal circumstances. Now, however, I get it. “No one is coming to save you” is a fundamental truth about you being the captain of your own ship. I actually think it should become an everyday mantra for all of us because once you realize no one is coming to save you, you begin to save yourself.
For example, you have research study after research study, and a slew of family members, telling you to stop drinking a case of Diet Coke every week, but ultimately, you’ve got to stop drinking that case of Diet Coke every week….”No one is coming to save you.”
Ready to save yourself? Here’s how:
- Drudge up discipline
Discipline is leaning into the right thing rather than the easy thing. It’s overriding laziness, comfort and impulsiveness in order to to move towards a goal. - Get decisive
No more “I don’t know” wishy-washy stuff. Indecision keeps us suspended in limbo. We’ve got to choose.( I have an acquaintance who was unable to pick out her wedding dress, so she was engaged for over six years.) - Take aligned action
A builder of houses doesn’t sit around all day thinking about houses. No, he or she gets at it with a table saw, a hammer and some nails until the house is complete. What “house” are you building and what needs to get done in order to build that house?
Now take a full moment to analyze yourself. Have you been chronically complaining about, or dissatisfied with, something lately? Maybe you’re not as fit at you’d like to be. Maybe you want to get better at golf. Maybe you dread your job or want to get paid more. No one is coming to save you. A fitness trainer, a golf pro or a headhunter might help, but you’ve gotta dig your own self out of that hole…so get on with it! No one is coming to save you.
Save yourself.
Let’s Move!
