Newton’s First Law

Congratulations are in order – we made it to February! However, in my world, everyone is still talking about the weather, and it seems as though the snowy cold temps are foiling workout plans left and right.

Good thing exercise isn’t all or nothing. Instead of throwing in the towel this time of year, and perhaps sitting around and waiting for spring, you and I can adjust and pivot. I’ve been reminding all of my clients of our macro fitness goal, which is to move everyday. Movement, even in a small amount, keeps us energized and inspired.

So here’s how I’ve adjusted and pivoted my movement strategy:

#1 Timing
My sunrise dog walks are now later. I actually wait until the warmest moment of the day and try to go out as close to that time as possible.

#2 Duration
My dog walks are shorter but because of the windchill I feel like I battled the elements when I return to the warmth of my home!

#3 Wardrobe
Indoors, I’m working out in sweaters and thermals. I’ve got my leg warmers in heavy rotation too.

#4 Content
I’m purposely adding a mini-cardio series at the beginning of most yoga and Pilates sessions, and I actually took a hot yoga class last Wednesday which left my muscles toasty and warm.

#5 Looking For Opportunities
During the blizzard days (there have been a few), I was lucky enough to still have power, so I took long baths and while I was in there, I stretched with forward folds, neck circles, spine twists, etc. I also journeyed outside in the tundra a few times, shoveling walkways and making a snow “tunnel” for my dogs.

In hindsight, everything I did was legit exercise, even though it was all planB. You and I have permission for our workouts – and our workout attire – to be atypical.

There’s an unwritten “empowered wellness workout” motto and it’s this: body in motion stays in motion.Your body in motion stays in motion, so wherever this newsletter finds you, Let’s Move!
