My Longevity Secret

Most of my fit pro colleagues have retired. Almost everyone I started teaching with in the fitness world is long gone from teaching and training people. Some of them are still in the industry, but have acquired more behind-the-scenes/ corporation administrative jobs.

The way I see it, there are three main reasons for this: 1. they make more money doing other things and that’s a priority. 2. they don’t want such a physical job anymore and found another passion. 3. Their body broke down.

#3 is a bummer.

Early on, I was repeatedly told by family and friends “to get a real job” and my Dad famously called teaching aerobics equivalent to “digging ditches.” I see their points and, Lord knows, teaching group exercise is not for everybody.

But my body has held up pretty well and, along with loads of good luck, I believe it’s because of my barefoot devotion.

Snowing outside? Wear shoes. Attending a wedding? Wear shoes. Eating at a restaurant? Wear shoes.  Working out and attempting to build an aligned, balanced, strong and integrated body? Don’t wear shoes!

Why? Because most shoes: 1.dis-engage the muscles of the feet, essentially cutting them off from the rest of the body, and 2. throw off skeletal alignment, either slightly or significantly. These two byproducts of footwear make the body more prone to injury. I haven’t been plagued with injuries even though I’ve had multiple phases of “wellness carelessness” – I give the credit to my two barefeet.

People think going barefoot is about the feet, but it’s about way more that feet – it’s about whole body symmetry which promotes physical longevity.

(Longevity? What a thrill!)

So let’s leave our shoes in the mudroom…. let’s keep on keepin’ on..and Let’s Move!  ðŸ¤—
