Lymphatic Flush

I can retain water like nobody’s business. Air travel, salty and processed foods, and prolonged inactivity really show up on my face, in my calves, and around my belly. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about the lymphatic system and one thing is for sure – your lymphatic system loves it when you move your body.

Don’t you think it strange that the lymphatic system was never a topic – not for a single second – in any of my various fitness trainings? However, just about every massage therapist, acupuncturist, and herbalist I’ve known has been quite knowledgable on the topic, so I picked their brains, read their books, and took their workshops. (I highly recommend this book, if you want to dive deeper.)

We can positively affect our lymphatic flow. Yup, we are never helpless! Here are the three (super-basic) to-do’s:

First off, don’t be sedentary. Get up and move. Shake it out, stretch, walk, yawn, twist, and if you’re feeling extra, do some cartwheels.

Second, hydrate. Your lymphatic fluid is fluid, but it could get swampy, thick, and toxic.  One of my favorite sayings is, “dilution of the pollution is the solution.” Water and water-rich foods dilute.

Third, eat clean-ish. Crappy food makes us feel like crap, so just say no to fast food, overeating in general, and any ingredient made in a lab.

Your lymphatic system is taking out the trash. In fact, it’s detoxifying you right now. Help it help you with The Lymphatic Flush Workout, our newest workout on Let’s Move! This 15minute workout is a perfect example of how fitness is a tool for empowered wellness.
