Just Right Is Just Right

The theme of the week is balance and I really can’t emphasis enough how important it is. Movement can be medicine OR it can be poison. There is a very fine line between invigoration and irritation. More is not better, and not enoughis not enough. There is a balance we must strike, and here’s how to do just that: MINDFULNESS.

Mary Oliver sums it up perfectly, “Instructions for living a life. Pay attention….” Expect every single day to be different. Your body, like the moon and the ocean and all of nature, ebbs and flows. We have to pay attention to how we feel and act accordingly.

For me personally, especially early on, imbalanced workouts were common. I took an ROTC bootcamp in college that left me barely able to move. I subbed a tao bo class, imitating the intensity of the regular instructor, and couldn’t move my arms the next day. I ran the Wagnar Relay (a brutal race from New Haven, CT to Boston, MA) which took weeks to recover from. These are examples of imbalance and irritation.

When a workout is imbalanced it:
depletes your energy
weakens confidence
puts you in a bad mood
sets your body back
increases the stress response

When a workout is balanced it:
gives you energy
promotes body positivity
puts you in a better mood
helps your body function optimally
assists with stress management

And let it be known that not moving at all, or living too idle of an existence, is imbalanced too…and very very common.

Ladies, don’t be proud of a “grueling” workout. Instead, aim for just rightBalance is beautiful…and it’s the real catalyst to feeling good, looking great & shining brightly.
Let’s Move!
