Just Getting By
I have been just getting by these last few weeks and I know I’m not alone. I recently learned that the school my son, Luca, used to go to started their winter break early because so many people were out sick. Between the shorter days, the winding down of the year with added commitments, and so many people under the weather, it feels like just getting by is a victory. Let this post be a reminder to not beat yourself up. Try your best, forget the rest.
If your regularly scheduled workout doesn’t make it into the mix, or gets abbreviated, so be it and so it is. If your diet gets a little more indulgent, so be it and so it is. if your quality of sleep becomes a little wonky, so be it and so it is. Honesty, it’s ’tis the season! Try your best, forget the rest.
A sign of wellness intelligence is knowing that true wellness is a long game – one day or week or month need not derail, detour or defeat us. Another sign of wellness intelligence is if a person can zoom out and look at the big picture of their life, and see how the things that pull us away from our healthy routines are actually necessary, more urgent, and worth it.
So congratulations if you’re just getting by. Right now, that’s #winning!
