If There’s a Will, There’s a Way

We’ve had a lot of snow lately and my beloved trails are too icy to hike on, so I’ve resorted to taking my daily dog walks on the country roads surrounding my house. Rey (the dog) and I walk by some beautiful fields, a little lake, and a few gorgeous properties, saying hello to horses and ice fisherman along the way. I am forever aware that it is charming and serene, even when there are strong gusts of wind, big trucks occasionally driving by, slushy surfaces, and frigid temperatures that turn my cheeks bright red.

I went for a 45minute loop this morning and upon my return home, my husband saw my red face and said, “Wow, you sure do love to torture yourself.”  I was like, “What are you talking about? I enjoyed every second of it!”

There are three “adages” that pertain to this scenario:
1. If there’s a will, there’s a way. After three days in a row of not getting much outdoor time, I had big ambition to get out there.
2. If we wait for perfect conditions, nothing will ever be accomplished. I live in Northeastern USA. Honestly, I felt blessed that the sun was shining –  the conditions are as good as it gets for February!
3. Do what you can from where you are with what you’ve got! I’m not a snowshoe-er or a cross country skier, and I don’t have access to a treadmill (plus what about Rey?), so assessing my situation, this chilly walk is the winning ticket. Ask yourself what you want -weigh your options – don’t over think things – and go

Now, I’m back home, warm and cozy, and I just learned another storm is slated for this afternoon. Boy am I glad I went for that walk, and Rey’s glad too. So don’t delay – find a movement opportunity and get moving. You’ll be glad you did!
