How to Look Better Instantly

When the actress Nicole Kidman walks the red carpet, everyone oohs and aahs, flashbulbs go off and there’s a movie star buzz in the air. Everyone, in turn, discusses her dress and her makeup and her jewelry that’s worth millions of dollars, but strip all of that away, and Nicole Kidman, in my opinion, would still be stunning because her posture is GREAT.

There’s a new video fit tip debuting on Let’s Move!  today, and I hope you take the time to watch it. It’s super quick, and it could be game-changing or serve as a reminder. There are three tips total, and I’ll let you find out about two of them by watching the video, but one of the tips is worth its weight in gold – good posture

Good posture is synonymous to proper alignment, where ears stack over shoulders stack over hips stack over heels. There’s a slightly lifted heart, the shoulders are relaxed down and back, and if you’re standing up, there’s an even distribution of weight throughout the feet. Good posture is an automatic beautifier because it allows for energy flow and ease.

When it comes to good posture, It need not be forced. Don’t muscle your shoulders back and don’t over exaggerate into a “boastful” chest. Forced posture is as bad as crunched up posture, because either way, the energy gets stifled.

Self-awareness to the rescue!  Good posture can easily be acquired by paying attention to your body’s positioning throughout the day. And you know you’ve got good posture when breathing feels easier and tension, especially in and around the spine, dissipates.

Some of us conjure up good posture for a photo op, but then our “resting” posture is crunched up and curled forward. To this I say, good start, but keep going! Get vigilant about your alignment when you’re seated at your desk, driving in your car, or walking down the street. Periodically correct and fine-tune it . A (positive) side effect of mindful movementis proper alignment, so working out with me will help too!

I put good posture on a pedestal, but it’s really just a habit. Awareness is all it takes and there is only an upside to straightening up.
