How I Watch Sports 🤩

The only thing playing on the TV in my household is sports – basketball, football, tennis, golf, baseball….there is always a sporting event on the screen. I’ve learned to embrace it, and I’m actually very inspired by athletes. They are outstanding examples of self-mastery.

One of the most universal things among the top athletes, no matter what the sport, is they are their own best cheerleader. They give themselves a fist pump, a subtle head nod and a “Let’s Go” all game long, but especially in tough moments. They know, 10,000 fans might be booing them or cheering for their opponent, but the voice within is what matters most.

The other universal attribute I see in the athletic greats is the way they carry themselves. Their posture, facial expressions and alignment relay to the world, “I’m a winner.” (I lovvveeee me some winning posture! ðŸ’•)

The third universal trait of top athletes is breathing. They all leverage their breath to stay calm, present and focused. The best of the best are so good at doing this, they are like Jedi-knights of breath. Your breath is a portal into the here and now. Every top athlete knows – and utilizes – this truth.

You and I need not be playing Wimbledon to be like these athletes. Everyday is an opportunity. Everyday, especially during our workouts, we can be our own cheerleader, have winning posture, and breathe our way out of stress and into the moment.  Self-mastery isn’t reserved for the Michael Jordan’s of the world – it’s also for you and me.
