Got Peace?
Are you someone who wakes up behind the eight ball, rushing around in the morning? Do you take your coffee or breakfast on the go and speed off to work feeling frazzled from the get-go? Even though I am an early bird, I used to be this “rushing around” person. But I’ve changed.
A few years ago, I had a realization that rushing is rarely circumstance, it’s a mindset. It’s feeling like you are in a race against time. It’s feeling like you have too much to do and not enough time to do it. Rushing has very little to do with the facts. And while it seems harmless, the rushed mindset, like cigarettes and GMOs, is bad for you because it steals your peace.
So how did I kick the rushing habit? First, with awareness. I started noticing my friends and family (my husband!) and some clients, and how they would live in a mini-panic when it came to time. Second, I realized that it was a self-induced panic and a false sense of productivity…created in their minds most of the time. Third, I simply decided to have command over my time and to be unrushed. I adamantly choose to take my peace with me wherever I go.
And news flash: feeling peaceful is good for you! It keeps your breath big, your energy flowing, and your mind/body connected. It’s downright luxurious, and you can have for yourself.
There is a meme going around that says, Calm is the new superpower. I agree! And one of the best things you can do to create a sense of calm is to not rush.
