Buck the System
The other day I was listening to a podcast, where a comedienne discussed the three stages of womanhood. Stage one is naive. It’s when a woman is not quite hip to the ways of the world. Stage two is exhausted. It’s the busy “superwoman” trying to do it all. Stage three is exhausted and angry. It’s when a woman, after years of burning the midnight oil, is mentally, physically and spiritually depleted, and mad because of it. Of course the comedienne was trying to be funny, and laughter filled the airwaves, but there was some truth to it. I’ve been all of those women!
It got me thinking. Our culture is what is it, and every woman has her own individual journey, but ladies, we need to play our cards better. We need to help ourselves, and avoid contributing to the madness. How? With regular restorative self-care practices.
And I’m not talking massages and spa days, although those things are nice. I’m talking about simple daily things like a feel-good exercise routine, the habit of putting your phone in airplane mode, an evening bath, setting boundaries by saying no, or regularly walking in nature. Taking care of yourself shouldn’t be an afterthought. It should be a priority, but we’ve got to prioritize it. No one else will – the world around us is programed to bleed us dry if we don’t. (Sorry to be so harsh here, but #TRUTH!)
Captain your own ship and buck the system. What’s the opposite of exhausted and angry? How about energized and delighted? That’s the stage I’m striving for. Who’s with me?
Let’s Move!
