“Everything we do is infused with the energy with which we do it. If we are frantic, life will be frantic. If we’re peaceful, life will be peaceful.” – Marianne Williamson

For a long time I thought finding serenity was getting rid of stress, but it’s actually diverting your attention away from stress and towards the peace of now. I know that sounds corny, but for most of us, stress isn’t ever completely going away.

The top athletes have mastered serenity. During competition, they face tough adversity – there’s a lot of stress – but instead of getting rattled, they put their attention on breathing, movements, and the job at hand. The champions of sports and of life, regardless of stress, bring themselves to the peace of now.

That’s why our workout today is Serene Strength. With breathing focus and our attention firmly in the present moment, this 20minute equipment-less class, trains us to find (and sustain) serenity. Time flies when we workout in the peace of now. We stay safer when we workout in the peace of now. And our workouts are more potent when we workout in the peace of now.

You know those posters that say “Keep Calm and Carry On?” That’s what we’re doing today, Day 9, and you’re doing great. Keep going. Tomorrow is our victory lap. 🏆

Slowing down one’s breath is a simple way to calm down….what a great off-the-mat action step for our serenity-themed day! So at some point today, take a comfortable seat, close your mouth, and inhale through your nose for five seconds. Follow that inhale up with a five second exhale out through the nose. Repeat for a whole minute (six total rounds). The peace of now will be yours in 60seconds!
